My opinion is this.
Compare our track to our nearest neighbor, Barberton. What sets the tracks apart? The answer is obviously our hairpin. It makes Thompson more difficult to master than Barberton.
By making the track longer the way you're suggesting, a premium is being placed almost solely on speed. It wouldn't matter if you get out of the hairpin a little slow, because you can make up for it by the end of the straight.
So, if we were to expand the track, I personally would propose an addition that not only adds speed and distance, but also makes new, more complex driving situations.
The other problem with expanding the track is accommodating the view of the fans. With your outline, the stands that we have will not cut it anymore.
Otherwise, an addition to the racing surface would be fun, welcomed, and almost certainly attract more drivers. |

Not bad .... like $250K to do that? At least some of the curb bricks are still there!
I wonder what gearing would be....11/76 maybe? 11/74? Try that some weekend on a can for fun just to see what the existing hairpin would be like....not to mention all the bad things that can happen around 100 mph...
Why not just add about 75-100 yards after the left at the end of the straight and another hairpin back to the existing track? 2 more passing zones....lots less cash...

Widen the track about 10' and bank the turn in front of the consession stand.--- And maybe a loop to loop at the end of the straight. Louie |

And lengthen it. Build the worlds longest and fastest kart tracing rack.
We can start advertising:
Sunday! Sunday! Sunday! Visit the kart racing capital of the world!
Come drive the beast!!! |

Put a connector in to allow for a west track, east track and full course. Would be nice to design in good passing zones in several places.
For now I'll worry about learning the currant course! |
