The Championship Kart Racing Association will hold the seventh annual CKRA Grand Prix on June 26th, 2011. All of the proceeds from the CKRA Grand Prix will be donated to charity. CKRA’s charity partner this year is again, Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital Circle of Friends. Ranked as one of nation’s best children’s hospital, Rainbow Babies and Children’s has helped so many have a better life. CKRA is a 501c3 Non-Profit organization that promotes family oriented kart racing events on a paved road course that was specifically built for kart racing. CKRA is made up and run by 100% volunteers that are passionate about the sport of karting.
The CKRA Grand Prix is now the only grand prix style race on Cleveland's North Coast. This year the racing event will be held at the CKRA’s home track the Thompson Kart Raceway in Thompson Ohio. Thompson Kart Raceway is a World Karting Association (WKA) sanctioned Master Track. WKA (http://www.worldkarting.com) is the sanctioning body for over 10,000 kart racers nationally and over 120 tracks.
This year the event will span the June 24th-26th weekend and will be held in a kart fest format. It will include a swap meet (karting’s version of a flea market), vintage kart racing, and a celebrity race to complement the feature grand prix racing event. The local celebrity race is open to all local celebrities interested in supporting charity. Anyone that would like to help to promote the event or participate in the celebrity race is encouraged to contact CKRA for more information. All racing equipment can be provided. Sponsorship opportunities are available for companies who would like to be associated with this wonderful event.
Race karts are very fast, incredible handling, racing machines. Karting is also one of the most affordable forms of motorsport and can fit into almost anyone’s budget. Kart racing is always fast paced and provides some of the most exciting live wheel to wheel racing most people will ever see. Racers competing in the CKRA Grand Prix range from 5 years old, to 68 years old. Drivers are separated into classes by age, experience, engine type, and engine size. Karting is great fun for the whole family. Racers can begin racing at any age. Some as early as 5 years old, but don’t be fooled, these youngsters are fast and can really drive. Most racers are in the adult classes ranging from age 15 years, and older.
Kart racing is the grass roots motorsport that almost all professional race drivers used as a stepping stone at the beginning of their careers. This includes many top the world's top race drivers including: NASCAR champions Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart, Formula One superstar Michael Shumacher, and Indy Car champions Sam Hornish Jr. and Danica Patrick. Many of them still race karts to keep on top of their game. In fact last year's Daytona 500 winner, Jamie McMurray tuned his driving skills last December by competing in a WKA race before his February victory.
We are encouraging everyone to come out and help raise money for a great cause, either as a spectator, racer, or event volunteer. Event volunteers are needed and there are many ways you can become involved. Parking assistants, corner workers, food services workers, hospitality workers, and donation collectors are all needed.
